Julian
rebukes nightclub rumours discusses work with reggae band "Thrid
World" and with indendent film "Taff's Gold".
A newsletter came out today in which Julian rebukes the rumors of
him opening a nightclub in Spain. He also discusses work on a song entitled
"Hold Tight" with reggae band Third World and possible
work on a independent movie entitled "Taff's Gold"
| Hello friends!
I know it’s a tough time for us all at
the moment what with the state of affairs across the globe, but
we’ve got to keep our chins up and stay strong, not only
for ourselves but also for those less fortunate than ourselves.
The reason I’m writing to you today is
to clear up a few inaccurate newspaper and magazine articles.
It has been reported in the USA and in Europe that I’m setting
up a multimillion dollar club in Spain and that I’ve started
working as a chef in a restaurant … and that I’ve
given up music! Well folks, none of these stories are true! The
truth is that I am a SMALL shareholder in a SMALL bar/restaurant
in Spain owned by an acquaintance of mine, and that’s it!
It’s all very simple really, I don’t know how the
story got twisted in the first place. It probably got mixed up
because someone somewhere heard that cooking is ONE of my first
loves!
As for the multi million dollar club???!!!
Got me there! I don’t know what that’s all about.
And as for giving up music, they’re having
a laugh aren’t they!!! Music is in my blood, it’s
not something you can just give up! It will always be with me,
one way or another!
One of the reasons you haven’t heard
anything from me for a while is because I’ve been rebuilding
and upgrading my home studio. I’m doing it myself and it
has taken me a lot more time than I expected! But although it’s
nearly finished I’m taking my time over it to get it right.
Anyway, it should be up and running by the spring with a bit of
luck.
Also, we have been working really hard on www.lennon.net
(Lennon by Lennon). Gathering information about my family has
not been easy! But we’re getting there! Don’t forget
that one of the main reasons I have set up these websites is for
YOU, the fans. For you to be able to access the truth in every
way, shape and form. If there is any news about me or my family
you’ll read the truth here, first! So, don’t always
believe what you read in the tabloids or magazines!
On another note, I am involved in a great restaurant/bar
in the USA. A friend of mine came up with the concept in San Francisco
and together we’re taking it to several other locations,
the second one being San Jose. For those of you who love Japanese
food with a difference and a great fun/chilled atmosphere with
great music, come and try Blowfish - sushi to die for! Don’t
worry, we do cooked food as well! Blowfish San Jose will be opening
early 2003. Details of other locations will be made available
in due course if you’re interested. If not, no worries!
Was that enough of a plug!
Some other news - I’m in negotiations
to appear in a film that is due to start shooting either at the
end of this year or the beginning of next.
It’s a quaint little independent movie set in North Wales
(think 'Withnail and I '… 'Four Wedding and a Funeral')
… The part I am supposed to play is a stoned hippie technical
genius called Rhys. He’s not the lead role by any means,
but he’d be the most fun to play!!! The film’s working
title is 'Taff’s Gold', which may end up being the finished
title. So keep a lookout for it whether I’m in it or not
… I’ve read the script and it’s a sweet, quirky,
sentimental comedy – I’d go and see it!
Last but not least, I’ve just finished
a duet and background vocals on a track called Hold Tight which
will be on the forthcoming Third World
(reggae) album, which I hope will be released in the not too distant
future.
Phew!!! I think that’s about it. I’m
off back to the building, wiring and painting and then finally
onto getting the next album recorded and on its way to you.
I’ll be in touch to wish you all the
best before the end of the working year, but for now …
All the best and Happy Halloween!

George
Harrison Tribute Rumor.
Abbeyrd's Beatles Page
has posted a "possible" track list for a tribute album which
Ringo Starr's label - Koch Records is planning in tribute to George
Harrison.
Listed on the track listing is Julian Lennon doing "My Sweet
Lord" however, there is no comfirmation that Julian is actually
doing this... it is entirely speculative.. - Thanks John
Update: 9 September 2002
According to a Koch Records' press release Julian is a confirmed participant
in this tribute album which is slated for release on Feb. 25, 2003 (would
have been Harrison's 60th Birthday). Proposed title for the album is
"Songs From the Material World."
Last I had checked with MFAR they had not heard any information on
this so at this point, Julian's involvement with this project has not
been confirmed through them.
Update: 6 December 2002
According to the official
track listing of the George Harrison Tribute album released by RollingStone.com
Julian did not participate in this Tribute album...

Julian
releases www.lennon.net - a new "Family Site" designed by
Silkhouse.
A newsletter came out today announcing a new website Julian has
had designed. The site features information on the "Liverpool Lennons."
Probably the most interesting aspect of the site is the display of Julian's
collection of Beatles and John Lennon memorabilia. The site also has
a message board to discuss Julian, John and Cynthia Lennon.
| Hi folks.
I’ve got some exciting news I want
to share with you.
We’ve been creating a new Website
for some time, and today we’re launching www.lennon.net
This new site is dedicated to the Liverpool Lennons, my family
in Britain. Visitors can experience the story of the Lennon
family from the 1800s through the years right up to now. There's
also a never-before-seen peek at the family memorabilia I’ve
been collecting … items like the ‘Sgt Pepper’
gold disc and Dad’s afghan coat from ‘Magical
Mystery Tour’. And much more.
This is an organic project, one that will
grow with your help. So let us know what you think about the
new site. We especially want to hear YOUR stories about the
Liverpool Lennons. Have you had a ‘close encounter’
with Dad or any other members of the family? Do you have any
photographs of the family? Tell us YOUR special memory or
let us see YOUR unique picture and we’ll get them up
on the site for everyone to enjoy. Email your stories and
comments to info@silkhouse.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best

Paul
McCartney comments on "When I'm 64" Commercial
From the Washington Post on March 31, 2002:
|
The Super Bowl that featured
McCartney's performance in February also signaled the first
broadcast of a 30-second Allstate insurance commercial that
made use of "When I'm 64," whose basic melody McCartney
wrote when he was 14. Making it doubly ironic was that the
jingle was performed by Julian Lennon. It was the first time
he had recorded a Beatles song.
But a new Lennon-McCartney feud is not
imminent. "It's a dumb move on the publishing company's
part because I don't think it helps the songs in the long
run," McCartney says. "But if anybody's going to
do it, I'd rather it be Julian. I've got to laugh at that."

Julian's
comments about recording "When I'm 64" for Allstate
The official site, http://www.JulianLennon.com
has posted a statement by Julian as to whey he has recorded "When
I'm 64" originally sung by Paul with the Beatles
on their main page. I know several have problems accessing the main
page with the flash set up so here it is... (The recording was done
in NYC)
| 'It's funny how all my life
I have been asked to record John Lennon songs and impersonate
my father, now out of the blue, I get a request to sing a Beatles
song. When I'm 64, originally recorded by Paul, is a song that
I never imagined myself performing, but because the idea was
so quirky and the fact that I saw a great deal of humour in
doing it, I thought - why not!' |
1 February 2002 - The commercial will be debuting during
the Super Bowl on Sunday Feb 3
4 February 2002 - Correction... The commercial actually
debuted during the NHL All Star Game on Saturday Feb. 2.

Allstate Launches
Advertising Campaign Featuring Beatles Classic "When I'm Sixty-Four"
Northbrook,
IL, Jan. 21, 2001- For the first time The Allstate Corporation
is introducing a national campaign focusing on the company's
transformation to a financial services provider. Featuring
the perennial Beatles song "When I'm Sixty-Four", the advertising
inspires viewers to imagine what their retirement will be like,
when they're 64.
As a provider of property
and casualty products for more than 70 years, Allstate has been
well known for protecting consumers. The new advertising communicates
that Allstate offers even more than insurance - that Americans
can rely on Allstate for retirement solutions and financial
products as well.
These commercials
will feature singer and songwriter, Julian Lennon, who has never
previously recorded a Beatles song, singing his rendition of
the classic Beatles hit. Allstate is one of only a handful
of companies ever to gain the rights to use a Beatles song for
commercial purposes.
"The ad campaign strengthens
the link between Allstate's reputation as a trustworthy insurer
to that of a provider of retirement solutions and financial
products," said Jill Weaver, vice president, brand strategy
and marketing communications, Allstate Insurance Company.
"Many individuals are unaware that they can purchase mutual
funds or annuities and enroll in IRA's through us to assist
them as they plan for a secure financial retirement. The
campaign clearly communicates that message to the largest population
segment in history, the Baby Boomers."
The "When I'm Sixty-Four"
commercials both raise awareness of Allstate's position in the
retirement industry as well as provide information on specific
products. The commercials are part of Allstate's new "The
Right Hands Make All the Difference"SM
campaign.
The "Right Hands"
umbrella campaign focuses on Allstate having the "right hands"
to provide products and services that make a difference in consumers'
lives.
Additional "Right
Hands" ads will feature the hands of athletes and other famous
or notable individuals, including Olympians Brian Boitano, Dan
Jansen and Bonnie Blair. Subsequent ads will feature Mario
Andretti, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Ann Lai (inventor and winner
of multiple science awards) and Vice Admiral Tony Less of the
Blue Angels.
The TV and radio advertisements
were developed by Leo Burnett USA, Allstate's advertising agency
of record for the past 44 years.
