Julian Lennon

Your father had the reputation of writing lyrics about pretentious subjects. Do you think that puts pressure on your song-writing style?

Well, I am still young, 22 - almost 23. I want to enjoy music. I try to experiment with different styles. In 1or 2 years, when I musically "let off some steam", I have to think more about my lyrics. But for now it satisfy me to write and sing about relationships.

But don't you think that people expect you to write about political subjects - like your father did?

Yes, that might be possible. I sometimes get the feeling that especially the press expect political commitments from me. But I don't want that right now. For the moment I want to produce albums that I and other people can enjoy.

There have been times when there was a lot in the press about your "holy" father and your "evil" stepmother Yoko Ono. There were talks about Yoko trying to dispute your right to your father's heir.

This news got totally out of control. It took me lots of work to get the rumors out of the way again. Now I don't care any more about such news. Yoko and I have a very good relationship at the moment. The comparisons to my father will probably never stop, but I don't want to think about them any more. If we have anything in common, then we have. If not, that's fine as well. I will just go on writing songs and enjoy them.
